Since the organization of this club it has been an active factor in its efforts tn promote tlie interests of the city of Peru and its people. Its work in bringing new manufacturing enterprises to the Oakdale addition is described in another chapter: the arrangements for the laying of the corner-stone of the new courthouse were made through the club; it has been energetic in campaigns to secure bonuses for new factories, particularly the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad shops: has offered valuable suggestions and assi.sted in the matter of granting franchises to corporations, and while it has sometimes taken the initiative in these matters it has always worked in harmony with but subservient to the city administration.
