Storms near this place
5 since 2002Regional context, not property-specific evidence. The National Weather Service names Tampico in 5 storm reports between 2002 and 2025: 2 thunderstorm wind, 2 tornado, 1 flash flood. No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.
| When | Event | Place named | Harm | What the report says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| March 2025 | Thunderstorm Wind | Tampico | $100,000 | South and west facing walls of a two story barn were ripped off by thunderstorm wind gusts after a tornado lifted. Nearby a newly built pole barn collapsed. |
| August 2009 | Thunderstorm Wind | Tampico | $60,000 | A spotter reported a feed mill and several barns flattened in Tampico due to thunderstorm wind gusts. The time of this report was estimated. |
| May 2002 | Flash Flood | Tampico | $50,000 | Parts of SR 39 flooded |
| March 2017 | Tornado (EF2) | Tampico | $45,000 | A brief EF-2 tornado, with winds up to 115 mph, touched down with the tornado lifting a garage up and partially off its foundation, turning the garage about 30 degrees, and resting it on top of a pickup truck which was in the garage. A frame ranch house next to the garage lost a substantial portion of its roof which was deposited to the northeast behind the house. Insulation from the house was splattered against the entire east wall of the house and the entire remaining roof of the east side of the home. A 25 foot trailer in the driveway was lifted, turned 180 degrees, and flipped onto its side, resting against the home.||This brief EF-2 tornado was embedded within a 12 mile long downburst path, which extended from just east of Medora to just west of Crothersville. Within this downburst path, straight line winds to at least 115 mph collapsed 3 metal transmission towers, all laying to the east. These transmission towers were about 7 miles east of the tornado path. |
| March 2025 | Tornado (EF1) | Tampico | $25,000 | The EF1 tornado was a brief spin up that tracked to the east-northeast along the leading edge of a bowing line of severe storms. The circulation touched down one-third mile south-southwest of the intersection of County Roads 50 East and 500 South. High end EF1 damage then occurred to a mobile home on County Road 500 South where the entire roof was torn off with walls collapsed. The track ended when the vortex lifted one-third mile west-southwest of the intersection of County Road 400 South and Indiana Route 39, although straight line winds up to 80 mph assumed the tornado's path, produced further damage to barns to County Road 300 East. Maximum winds were estimated at 105 mph. |
