La Crosse, the town this property stands in, in 46 storm reports between 1996 and 2023: 29 hail, 11 thunderstorm wind, 3 tornado, 2 flash flood.
No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office
filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date
opens the federal record of that event.
The hail broke out 20 windows at the Rush county courthouse. Two patrol cars had their windshields broken out. Windows were also broken out of the St. Michaels Catholic Church...along with numerous homes and businesses.
Hail swath of 7 miles wide produced total devastation to some of the native grasses and destroyed most of the wheat. A USDA report indicated some hail up to softball size but gave no specific information.
This tornado may have been another satellite tornado based on spotter video and from the damage survey moved north through trees but yet was east of the larger wedge tornado.
