Storms near this place
11 since 1997Regional context, not property-specific evidence. The National Weather Service names Moscow in 11 storm reports between 1997 and 2022: 9 thunderstorm wind, 1 tornado, 1 hail. No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.
| When | Event | Place named | Harm | What the report says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| April 2015 | Thunderstorm Wind | Moscow | $75,000 | A two mile long swath of straight line wind damage was noted from roughly one half mile northwest of Moscow to 2 miles northeast of Moscow. The majority of the damage occurred to groves of trees that were snapped or uprooted. A century old barn was severely damaged after being impacted by the high winds and pushed off its elevated foundation. Additional evidence was found of a weak tornado within this swath that is noted separately. Maximum wind speeds are estimated to have reached at least 90 mph. |
| August 2021 | Thunderstorm Wind | Moscow | $15,000 | Three foot diameter tree snapped. Large 1-2 ft diameter limb down. Power pole snapped and leaning on a house. Damage along Mosherville Rd at 2 separate residences. |
| August 1997 | Thunderstorm Wind | Moscow | $5,000 | Scattered reports of trees and power lines downed across Moscow Township. |
| August 2022 | Thunderstorm Wind | Moscow | - | A trained spotter reported a 60 mph near Moscow Michigan. |
| May 2018 | Thunderstorm Wind | Moscow | - | A trained spotter estimated wind gusts to 65 mph. |
| April 2015 | Tornado (EF0) | Moscow | - | An evaluation of damage provided by emergency management officials and local residents aided in determining that a EF0 tornado touched down within a larger swath of wind damage. A weak, disorganized circulation touched down over an open field southwest of the intersection of Bibbins and Mosherville Roads and moved northeast. As it progressed NE it strengthened somewhat after crossing Bibbins Road and approaching a residence on Mosherville. The main circulation passed to the NW of the home, causing tree damage. The tornado appears to have quickly weakened and likely dissipated as it approached a grove of trees and a farm to the east. The remnant winds took a direct hit on a barn that was resting higher than surrounding buildings, essentially destroying it. Yet most surrounding building suffered minimal damage. A center pivot was flipped, but it is likely from the remaining forward momentum of the wind and storm. Maximum winds were estimated to be between 80 and 85 mph, with the tornado having a maximum width of around 70 yards and on the ground roughly six tenths of a mile. |
| August 2014 | Thunderstorm Wind | Moscow | - | Emergency management officials reported four trees were blown down as well as some power lines across the northern part of the county. |
| September 2011 | Thunderstorm Wind | Moscow | - | Law enforcement officials reported trees and power lines down. |
| June 2005 | Thunderstorm Wind | Moscow | - | Several large tree limbs reported down. |
| July 2002 | Thunderstorm Wind | Moscow | - | Emergency management reported large trees down near Moscow. |
| June 2019 | Hail | Moscow | - | no account filed |
