Population over time

2 figures

Primrose fell from 61 to 55 between 2010 and 2020. These are the recorded population figures Wikidata holds for this place, reached through the Geographic Names Information System number this page is keyed on rather than by name, so they belong to this place and not to another of the same name. Most are census counts, but not all are: an early figure may be a founding or settlement estimate, and an estimate published within five years of a census is left out. The change column is computed, and is left blank where more than 20 years separate a figure from the one before it, because a gap that long is not a change between two counts.

WhenEvent Place namedHarm What the report says
June 2010FloodPrimrose$80,000Although three day rain totals in the area through 7am June 12th were in the 3 to 4 inch range, the rain fell on saturated soil due to rains earlier in the month plus heavier rain fell upstream of Boone county. The heavier rain upstream of Boone county caused flooding along the Cedar River which was aggravated by the failure of a dam on the river near Ericson which sent flood waters to another dam near Spalding which was then over-topped. The flooding in Boone county washed away 2 sections of a wooden bridge southwest of Primrose and also flooded farmland and a few county roads in the area.
May 2011Flash FloodPrimrose$1,000Rainfall of 2 to 3 inches fell west through southwest of Albion as thunderstorms repeatedly tracked across the same area during the late afternoon and evening of 5/20. This caused flash flooding across Highway 52 and a few county roads along the Cedar River between Primrose and Cedar Rapids. The flooding briefly closed the highway and also flooded some farmland over the area. However, damage was apparently minimal.

The winds were estimated at over 60 mph. The damage was noted by area agronomists flying over the area and is known as green snap, or stalk breakage due to winds during a fast growing stage right before tasseling.
June 2011Thunderstorm WindPrimrose-A trained spotter estimated that thunderstorm winds reached 55 to 60 mph. The hail was accompanied by small hail which shredded some corn fields in the area.
June 2011HailPrimrose-Hail around dime-size was accompanied by thunderstorm wind gusts estimated at around 50 mph.
June 2008HailPrimrose-Hail up to quarter size fell for at least several minutes in the Primrose area. The hail was accompanied by thunderstorm wind gusts estimated at 65 mph. The combination of hail and strong winds caused quite a bit of crop damage in the area and some vehicle and house damage was noted. The damage path due to the hail was about 1.5 miles wide in the area.
June 2008Thunderstorm WindPrimrose-Thunderstorm wind gusts estimated at 60 to 70 mph blew down trees onto power lines near Primrose. The winds also flipped 14 center pivots in the area and downed trees causing scattered vehicle and house damage.
