Population over time
2 figuresReynolds fell from 69 to 57 between 2010 and 2020. These are the recorded population figures Wikidata holds for this place, reached through the Geographic Names Information System number this page is keyed on rather than by name, so they belong to this place and not to another of the same name. Most are census counts, but not all are: an early figure may be a founding or settlement estimate, and an estimate published within five years of a census is left out. The change column is computed, and is left blank where more than 20 years separate a figure from the one before it, because a gap that long is not a change between two counts.

Storms near this place
28 since 1996Regional context, not property-specific evidence. The National Weather Service names Reynolds in 28 storm reports between 1996 and 2021: 17 hail, 7 thunderstorm wind, 2 funnel cloud, 1 tornado. No death or injury is recorded in these reports. Each account below is quoted exactly as the forecast office filed it, from the NOAA Storm Events Database, and each date opens the federal record of that event.
| When | Event | Place named | Harm | What the report says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| May 2008 | Tornado (EF2) | Reynolds | $1,750,000 | This tornado was a continuation of a long-tracked tornado that started in Jewel county Kansas and tracked into Thayer county Nebraska before crossing into Jefferson county Nebraska. The tornado did EF3 damage in Kansas and EF2 damage in Jefferson county. ||In Jefferson county the tornado started 2 miles west and 1 1/4 mile north of Reynolds, knocking over large tree branches, snapping trees and overturning several center pivot irrigation systems. The storm tracked northeast from there continuing to snap wooden power poles and causing additional tree damage as well as farm outbuilding damage. The tornado crossed the Little Blue River 2 3/4 miles northwest of Fairbury before turning east where it attained EF2 strength. There it tore the roof off of a house and destroyed a garage and shed 1 mile west of Highway 15. Heading east from there it hit the Fairbury airport where hangers were damaged. East of the airport, a large barn was destroyed and large trees snapped. The tornado finally lifted about 3 miles east and 3 miles north of Fairbury. From the there the parent thunderstorm continued to produce additional wind damage from eastern Jefferson county into Gage county. In total the tornado caused serious damage to 5 houses in Jefferson county. |
| June 2001 | Thunderstorm Wind | Reynolds | $500,000 | An area of apparently straight line wind damage was reported from southwest of Fairbury to north of town. Grain bins were destroyed, roofs were damaged, cars thrown, trees were uprooted and power poles were snapped. This was the second slow moving supercell to track across Jefferson county this evening. |
| July 2001 | Thunderstorm Wind | Reynolds | $500,000 | A supercell thunderstorm produced a 20 mile long path of damage due to downburst winds across Jefferson county. The winds were estimated at between 80 and 90 mph. The winds toppled trees and damaged roofs and windows most significantly in a 3 block wide swath in southern Fairbury. Power poles were snapped and several sheds and garages were also destroyed in this area. In rural areas there were center pivot irrigation systems and grain bins overturned as well as scattered tree damage. |
| June 2001 | Thunderstorm Wind | Reynolds | $400,000 | This slow moving supercell earlier produced a tornado in the adjacent county in northern Kansas. In Nebraska, near Reynolds, most of the damage was apparently caused by straight line winds, possibly from the rear flank downdraft, estimated at close to 100 mph. The strong winds stripped corn nearly to the ground in this area, overturned center pivot irrigation systems and grain bins and did some outbuilding damage. The winds also uprooted trees which blocked Highway 8 in town. |
| May 2021 | Hail | Reynolds | - | Public reported 1 inch hail. |
| July 2019 | Thunderstorm Wind | Reynolds | - | Numerous trees were reported blown down. Corn fields were also flattened or shredded from hail of unknown size. |
| September 2017 | Hail | Reynolds | - | Hail up to half dollar size fell from a storm south of Reynolds. Vehicles were damaged by the large hail. |

| May 2015 | Thunderstorm Wind | Reynolds | - | A survey from the emergency manager indicated an area of damaging winds in southwest Jefferson County. Damage included minor outbuilding damage, power lines downed, and center irrigation pivots overturned. The damage appears to have been caused by rear-flank downdrafts. |
| June 2009 | Hail | Reynolds | - | From a multi-updraft supercell thunderstorm that moved across the area this afternoon. The hail was up to baseball-size and caused damage to automobiles in the area. |
| June 2009 | Hail | Reynolds | - | The first round of hail from a multi-updraft supercell thunderstorm that moved across the area this afternoon. The hail caused some crop damage in the area. |
| July 2008 | Flash Flood | Reynolds | - | Emergency management reported that 4 inches of rain fell in the Fairbury area with reports of 4 to 6 inches south of town. The heavy rain caused flash flooding which closed numerous roads in Fairbury and caused 2 collapses to the city's sewer system. In addition, many county roads south of town, especially along Rose Creek, were flooded. The flooding washed out culverts and caused road damage...mainly south of Fairbury. Flooding continued along Rose Creek well into Saturday July 19th. |
| August 2007 | Thunderstorm Wind | Reynolds | - | A grain bin and tree damage was noted in Reynolds by thunderstorm wind gusts estimated at 60 mph by the Emergency Manager of Jefferson county. |
