Description of the property

This "L" shaped Virginia-style home was built on Paint Hill by architect Presley Morris for George Renick, a settler from Hardy County Virginia. Constructed of Waverly sandstone quarried nearby, the home was completed in 1804. The "L" was the first section to be completed and now stands to the rear facade of this portion has three bays with the doorway to the south end. The front, or main house, was completed in 1804. The facade of the two- side of the entrance, and the three windows on the second level, are all end chimneys, while the rear portion has a central chimney. Statement of significance

George Renick settled permanently in Chillicothe around 1802. 1803 Ohio gained statehood and, in that year, George Renick and his Cattle which held its first sale of Registered Shorthorns in the United States in 1835 on the Renick farm. were fed to cattle - but prices for beef also fell to the bottom with no good market. George Renick decided to drive 96 head of fat cattle from the Scioto Valley to Baltimore, Maryland where they were much in George Renick became a hero among the farmers and cattlemen of this as an example of the architectural style of that period in Chillicothe.
