Statement of significance

Lemuel (I) and Abel Kimball came from Rindge, New Hampshire in 1811. The land upon which the present house stands is part of the original later, a simple frame house, previously occupied the site. Abel's son, Lemuel (II) (1833-1909), built this house in 1869. The house boasts such innovations as a hot-air furnace, bedroom closets, curved staircase and some curved interior walls. Carl and Homer, were both representatives to the Ohio General Assembly. Carl Kimball was also a Speaker of the House. The home has been continually owned by a member of the Kimball law of the builder, had deeded a major portion of the land to acres, however, are held in trust for future generations of the furnishings and original features of the house. The house is the largest and most sumptuous of the Kimball properties and is a fine example of the Italian Villa style.
