Statement of significance

This house is significant primarily because of its architecture. It is unusual that an Italianate building would have been constructed so early in this area, but extensive research into probate records by local historian Dorothy Painter had pinpointed the construction to somewhere within a ten year period after 1844.The huge, elaborate brackets are the most striking features of this mental and quite unusual. On the whole this house is an unusually good example of the Italianate landmark by the people in the community. Owned by the R.W. Beckett Corporation, which has its factory and officesi nearby, this house had been allowed to deteriorate with the idea that it would eventually be demolished. Now, the Beckett Corporation has entered into an agreement with the Lorain County Historical Society and a crafts shop, whereby the heuse will be operated has begun. built around 1845.
