Further Description of Important Features ock is standard mitered gate type. The lock chamber is 91 feet long by 15 feet wide by 16 feet deep. Like most other locks in the system, this one was repaired with concrete c. 1905. Both gates are missing. There is water n the lock chamber. 3. History and Significance Lock No. 28, with a depth of 16 feet, was the deepest lock in that portion of the Ohio & Erie Canal between Akron and Cleveland, hence its popular name, "Deep Lock." This lock, along with Locks No. 37-39 in Valley View, are the best preserved in the Cuyahoga Valley. 4. Description of Environment and Outbuildings Situated in carefully maintained park land. The Old South Quarry ("Deep lock Quarry") is nearby. 5.
