Description of the property

The Horace C. Starr House is a two story brick building that is designed in the Italianate style of house is three bays wide on both the front and the side. The proportions of the front section are house is its large ornate cupola, which lies on top of the center of the main portion of the building. This cupola is constructed of wood. The shape is square in design and features three rounded windows on each side. The cupola is crowned by a pyramidal roof that has a decorative sphere at its peak. Another striking feature of this house is the use of very large wooden brackets at the eaves, which are mental character of this house. The windows are crowned by stamped metal pediments, which are - round arch opening, which is filled by a semicircular transom and original double doors.

The rear On the interior,a long central hallway bisects the house and contains an open stairway leading to the second floor. The first floor rooms have ceilings that are about thirteen feet high and are have been removed from the first floor rooms in their conversion to classrooms. The stairway has been altered by the erection of a partition to create a small room under the stairway landing. The second are probably not as ornate as those that once were on the first floor. A distinctive feature of the second floor is a circular stained glass skylight in the hallway which admits light from the cupola into the house. The house has a large attic, which is reached by a stairway. The cupola has seating around the windows. The rear wing of the house is simply finished and does not have tall ceilings. In addition to the house, two large carriage barns remain on the property.

The first located directly west of the house and is a two story wood frame structure. It is square in plan, has clapboard siding, and is crowned by a central cupola. The second building is located southwest of the house and is concealed from the street by the Baptist Church's newer building. It is also square in plan and has a central cupola, but is made of brick and has arched openings. It has been altered on the in terior by the church.
