Statement of significance

The Edmund Robinson House is a significant element in the historic landscape of S.R. 48, once a major thoroughfare between Lebanon and Dayton. It served as the home for several farmers during the 19th century and according to local tradition, as a tavern. In addition, it is an attractive example of the antebellum vernacular The Dayton Road, running north from Lebanon to Dayton, was opened in 1820 with funds obtained through the sale of the public lands in state. It became a toll road for a short time in the 1840s, but was purchased shortly by the county commissioners Edmund Robinson, an early farmer in Clearcreek Township, saw the possibilities provided by the commerce on the road and had this house constructed in the late the tavern and farm sometime probably in the late 1840s.
About 1860 the property The house constructed for Robinson is an excellent example of the pre-Victorian rural vernacular brick home in southwestern Ohio. The proportions of the facade are symmetry of the structure are representative of the vernacular buildings in the area.
