Further Description of Important Features This is a NeoClassical building, although the ornamentation has been streamlined and simplified reflecting the emerging Art Deco style. Inside was a beautiful skylited octagonal lobby, which has been subdivided into two levels. The skylite is still visible on the upper level. An elaborate waiting room has also been remodeled. 43. History and Significance This station was the last of the grand railroad stations, since the railroads began their decline in the Depression. When opened, it was described as the finest passenger facility of the Lake Shore Line between Cleveland and Chicago. Its Art Deco detailing is important in the Elyria context. 44. Description of Environment and Outbuildings The building takes up the whole lot. There are loading platforms on Depot Street.
