Further Description of Important Features This commercial building is highly ornamented. It features projecting bay windows at either end on the upper floors, arched window openings with stone trim and an elaborate masonry cornice. The ground level storefronts have been altered. Inside, the office on the upper floors are in only fair condition. 43. History and Significance This block is located on a section of Middle Avenue once known as "Cheapside", since the prices in stores along this section were supposedly cheaper than those in stores on Broad Street. An important example of the Romanesque style in the City. 44. Description of Environment and Outbuildings Set in a row of buildings of roughly similar age and height, this building still stands out because of its elaborate ornamentation. Across the street is Ely Park.
