Further Description of Important Features This is a simple structure and is ansitional in style from Greek Revival to Italianate. It has six er six rectangular windows throughout, except for a small peaked ndow in the front gable. The main entrance has been altered. The terior is comprised of two large spaces. On the first floor is a eting room with stage. Columns obstruct the middle of the room. A ngle stairway in the front leads to a similar sized room above, with storage room, instead of a stage, in the rear. Lot 44. less than one acre. History and Significance In 1867 the I.O.O.F. Lodge helped finance the building of the hall with dge headquarters housing the top floor of hall. The Rebekah Sisters also used the top floor e lower floor was used for touring opera companies, medicine shows and school activities.

Devine: Thank you for your inquiry on behalf of Mr. Benton Mahan concerning the nomination of the Chester Town Hall, Morrow County, Ohio, to the National Register of Historic Places. Mr. George Siekkinen, Jr., the Regional Preservation Officer, Region 7-HA, Ohio, representing the State Historic Preservation Officer, is presently working with Mr. Mahan on this matter. Chesterville has an inventory of buildings displaying Greek Revival stylistic elements. Mr. Siekkinen is studying the question of whether this inventory and the Chester community would best be served by nominating only the town hall or by undertaking further research for a multiple resource or historic district nomination. When this question is resolved, the historic resource can be evaluated by the State review board and nominated by the State Historic Preservation Officer.
The Office of Archeology and Historic Preservation, Heritage Conservation and Recreation Service, will be pleased to review the nomination when the State Historic Preservation Officer submits the documentation. Under the National Register program both grants and tax incentives for rehabilitation may be available for listed properties. The enclosed information further describes the National Register program. We have filed this through Mr. George Siekkinen, Jr. of the Ohio Historical Society.
We are now in the process of restoring our Town Hall-Opera House and feel it very important to be listed in the National Register. We need more money to help with our restoration. We have sponsored several shows and other money raising projects. Through these we have raised enough money to repaint, partly restore the stage and put in a new furnace.
