Further Description of Important Features There is not another Catholic church like this in the area. The influence is French. The off-center square tower with bracketted cornice has open bell tower. The main portion of the church has double doors with cobled pediment under a large central rose window. Round arched windows with dripstones on both stories are to the east of the doorway while narrow plain windows are in the tower portion. 43. History and Significance North Star was laid out in 1852 halfway between Celina and Greenville on the pres.nt U.S. 127, the old Anthony Wayne Parkway.

The town was named North Star because this was as far north in Darke County as you could get without running into swamps, according to Elick Alexander, lifelonq resident of North Star. Catholic parish founded in 1892 and was one of the French communities served by the Precious Blood priests. 44. Description of Environment and Outbuildings The rectory is to the west of the church on a side street that runs from the George Cranial Store, a landmark in the town. 45. Further Description of Important Features A hipped roofed dormer with 3 square windows, a second story stone cross embedded in the brick, and a gabled entrance with wooden fanshaped detailing are the three most dominant features of this building.

There is a one story glass enclosed veranda porch across the front. The windows have stone lintels and lug sills. 43. History and Significance Before the 1914 rectory was built, the priest resided in a small wood house which has been moved to the north edge of North Star on the west side of Route 127. It is the present home of Mrs. Chalmer Alexander. 44. Description of Environment and Outbuildings Directly to the east of the rectory is the St. Louis Catholic Church. To the west at the intersection of Rt. 127 and North Star-Fort Loramie Road is the George General Store which has been in continual operation since 1875. 45.
