Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) Surrounded by fields, the Odd Fellows' Home is one of several charitable homes for the aged and hospitals which were built in out- Iying sections of Worcester during the nineteenth century. The building's three and one-half storey central section with a five- story clock tower was begun in 1890 and opened in 1892. Although the grouped windows, rock-faced granite trim and other tower-details are reminiscent of Romanesque Revival design, the largest portion of the building is undecorated except for projecting brick piers and a slight corbelling at the cornice. The structure is enclosed by a slate-covered hip roof with dormers. Located on the east wall of the original building is a two and one-half storey addition built in 1902 to increase the home's capacity to 110 residents.
Bearing ele- ments of Classical Revival architecture, this addition has a symmet- rical facade, trimmed with limestone quoins, an entablatureand med- illioned cornice. The entrance is set behind an open Tuscan porch, above which is a stone parapet. Land for the home was donated by Thomas Dodge, a prominent Worcester inventor and patent lawyer, who gave eleven acres to the Odd Fellows' around 1890. Shortly thereafter, Dodge donated a neighboring parcel of thirteen acres to the city to insure "ample light and air" for the home. Included for nomination to the National Register are the Odd Fellows' Home, itself, and the large hilltop parcel on which it stands; neighboring property owned by the odd Fellows but located on the opposite side of Randolph Road has not been included in this nomination, as the nominated property is 10.
