Among these none deserves better to be honored in Lancaster story than James Wiser, alias Quanapaug or Quanapohit, whose courage and fidelity would have saved the town from the massacre of 1676, had not his timely warning been unwisely discredited by the apparently lethargic Governor and his slumberous Council.
West Boylston is situated seven miles Crom Worcester, by wliicli it is bounded on tlie south, and is about forty miles from Boston. Its territory extends about five miles from north to south and about three and a half miles from east to west. In shape it very much resembles an Indian tomahawk without a handle.

| August 2018 | Tornado (EF1) | Webster | 1 hurt, $5,000,000 | In just about one minute, an EF-1 tornado, with maximum winds estimated at 110 mph, wreaked havoc in the easternmost portion of Dudley, MA and in the downtown portion of Webster, MA. It touched down along Route 12 (Schofield Avenue) to the west of Laprise Court in Dudley and traveled northeastward onto Main Street in Webster, then lifted near the French River by Oxford Avenue. ||Many trees were snapped and debarked. In Webster, a gas station overhang was twisted. An old brick rooftop was damaged, with bricks having fallen onto Main Street. The rubber roof covering of another building was peeled completely off. Windows were blown out at a business on Main Street and the street was littered with broken glass. The side walls of an apartment complex were bent slightly outward toward the tornado. Window screens were sucked outward. A car windshield and side mirror was damaged. There were other reports of trees fallen onto cars. Utility poles were snapped and numerous wires were downed. According to MEMA, at least 3 buildings were condemned and at least 5 were uninhabitable.||Nearly everyone that our survey team spoke with had heard the warning via the Wireless Emergency Alert on their cell phones as much as 20+ minutes in advance of the touchdown! This undoubtedly played a big role in the fact that there were no fatalities. According to media reports, there was one minor injury when part of a roof fell on top of a woman's car. |

The Nashua River at Clinton also rose above flood stage. Several roads and basements flooded in Leominster, Fitchburg, Lancaster, Milford, Mendon, Blackstone, Northbridge, and Shrewsbury. Reduced speed limits were imposed on the rail line between Framingham and Worcester.||Clinton experienced substantial flooding two weeks prior to this event. The Nashua River at Clinton crested only four tenths of a foot lower than that event. However, because of the recent flooding, many preparations were made in advance of the rainfall. Roughly 10,000 sandbags were made and placed around Clinton with the help of the Massachusetts National Guard. This alleviated some of the damage that likely would have recurred with the three to six inches of rain that fell. |

In addition, a couple of propane tanks had to be secured at a house on Parkerville Road because they were floating in the waters. The Southborough Fire Department received 26 calls of basement flooding. Six inches of water inundated the Southborough Public Library's children's section, damaging books. |

Numerous hardwood and softwood trees, some very large, were uprooted or snapped off. A few landed on houses and vehicles. Most of the downed trees were lying in an easterly direction except more toward the ENE along the east shore of Chauncy Pond, consistent with what one might expect to be something of a divergent pattern with a microburst. At the southern edge of the damage swath no more than a quarter mile from downtown Westborough, the trees and branches seemed to be lying in a more ESE direction, again suggesting a hint of a divergent pattern. Several signs were blown down along Route 9, including a large restaurant sign and a billboard. A resident along Chauncy Street who took video looking out of his basement window showed an image that showed the storm approaching at 7:55 PM EDT and damage occurring at 8:02 PM EDT. The concentrated part of the microburst began about a half mile west of the Route 9 and Lyman Street intersection and ended about three quarters of a mile east of that point. The westernmost sign of damage observed was a tree down along Otis Street. It is possible that some damage occurred further west but was not part of the survey area. The team encountered one of the largest root balls they had ever seen on the old Westborough State Hospital grounds. Scattered damage was observed to the east into Southborough. |
