The house's symmetrical facade (east) has two sets of semi-circular bay windows, a center entrance and Palladian window over the entry. Named "Elmarion", the front section of the house is unaltered; it was ane tront seoflon 0f described and illustrated upon its completion in an article in The Worcester Magazine- In the 1920s or 1930s, the house's rear wing was partially rebuilt creating, on its south elevation, an entry set behind a semi-circular porch, three sets of glazed French doors with decorative railings (second story). The Goddard House has not been proposed for inclusion in the district as its siting and over-sized lot separate it from the more regular siting of buildings within the district. The house's first owner, and father of the present owner, was Harry Goddard (1863-1927), one of the city's most prominent manufact- turers at the turn of the century. Goddard, a native of Holyoke, Mass- achusetts, entered the employ of the Spencer Wire Company at the age of seventeen. Around 1884, at the age of twenty-one years, Goddard was made superintendant of the company's mill. In 1895, upon the death of the company's owner, Goddard purchased a controlling inter- est in the firm and became the company's president and general mana- ger. By 1900, the growth of the company under Goddard's direction had resulted in the construction of a new plant at the junction of WebsterSt. 10.
