Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) The Henry Goulding House is a two-storey frame house set on a foundation of rock-faced granite. The house's facade is made up of three bays with a side hall entry.
The facade is framed by corner pilasters supporting an entablature and cornice which extend across the gable to create a pediment. At the first storey is an open porch supported by four fluted Ionic eolumns- The ma jor entry is set in a pilastered frame with sidelights and original four-panel door. The Goulding House was built between 1847 and 1849 at 26 Harvard Street for Henry Goulding, a machinery manufacturer and founder of the Worcester Mechanics' Association. Around 1850-1851 Goulding's woolen machinery business was purchased by Willard, Williams and Company, perhaps at a large profit which led Goulding to move this house to its presont site and to build a large Itallanate mansion at 26 Harvard Street. Once located at 4 Dix Street the house was sold to Samuel Bemis in 1850 and later to David Whiting Eames, Bemis's son-in-1aw. 10.
