The block is five stories high with elevations facing Nain and Austin Streets. Pacade windows of the third, fourth and fifth stories are glazed witn . double-hung sash, the top lalves of which have arched muntins. The block's Austin Street ele- vation is faced with pressea brick and heavily studded with star-pattern tie-rod plates. Except for its modernized store front and the replacement oi sore second storey sash, the Babcock Block is intact- It is likel; that the block was built around the sane time as the neighboring Colton BLOCK (torm 130-0BD-45) Ior chester babcocz, a building mover whose house was at #2 Austin Street. Ine buildin 's earliest known occupant was J.R. Emery " Co., grocers (188). 10.
