Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) The Woodland Street Firehouse is a two-storey brick buildin; with a rectangular floor plan and a square-plan tower at its southwest corner.
At its facade (east) the building rises fron a base of rock-faced granite laid in a broken course; centered at ground level is an arched entry (original doors) above which are tripartite windows and a gable with a sandstone coping and finial. The building is enclosed by a slate-covered hip roof. The tower rises approximately four stories to a belfry framed by paired arches and is enclosed by a high hip roof. The Woodland Street is one oi the finest oi worcester's Victorian iirehouses, both for its unaltered condition and for the hich qualitv of its original desi n which combines elements of Queen Anne and Romanesque Revival styles.
Nearly identical to the Cambridge Street firehouse (Form 166-A) which was also designed bj Fuller & Delano in 1886, the Wocdland Street building was built to serve the surrounding residential area which grew dramaticalli in the 1880s and 1590s as early large lots and estates were subdivided for suburban development- 10.
