Description of the property

sandstone foundation has small ventilating openings which are covered with ornate iron The interior is a single large room which is plainly finished with plaster walls and ceiling and a wide board floor. Along either side are chimneys where heating stoves The school enjoys an isolated rural setting and is set back about one hundred feet as a museum and is furnished with many period antiques and artifacts owned by the Condition committee. attic. ruins unexposed fair some years ago. The building has no basement, but the rock faced once stood. Old blackboards line the rear and side walls. The rear of the building has no windows and features a small, slightly raised podium.

Statement of significance

(in one paragraph) and is a more elaborate building than most. The Boyd School is the only restored one- room schoolhouse museum in the county. It serves not only as a reminder of an important eastern Holmes County. The first school on this site was built during the Civil War. This frame structure was replaced by the present building in 1889.
