Description of the property

The original appearance of the house was in the Eastern Stick style with elements of Queen Anne and Eastlake styles (see photo documentation) and was built in 1887. Arrowston, situated on a substantial hill, consists of the main house - a large Georgian Revival mansion, remodeled in 1929, a stable-garage-apartment, gardener's cottage, pool house and swimming pool, and several other buildings, structures and objects. 1.

The main house is "L" shaped, wood and steel framed, 3 stories with full basement, has a stone foundation, 9x5 bays on the west and south sides, white painted weatherboard siding, and light windows with working shutters; 2 full porticos with unfluted freestanding columns and enriched capitals with a small balcony on the second floor of the east portico; front entrance with broken pediment, 6 panel door, unfluted pilasters with enriched capitals and leaded glass transom; several eliptical arched dormers, and a dormer on the rounded bay of the shaped window is surrounded by intricate carved relief on the tympanum of the east porticos; most fixtures were custom made for this house, using the finest materials, such as solid brass.

W. Wood III for her granddaughter Aileen. building has remained an integral part of the estate since its installation.

7. High Acre farmhouse - an "I" shaped, two story brick and frame building with 9/9 light windows, gabled dormers, and three large brick chimneys. An arcaded porch is situated along part of the south side of the building. Boal (grandfather of the present owner, W. B. Wood) purchased the land between Park Avenue and Echo Lake, from the Hydraulic Canal to the western boundary as indicated by the farmhouse was greatly enlarged and remodeled, with the same New England character the rest of the estate was taking on.
