Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) The Barnes House is significant as the only singie family, five-bay Federal style brick house in East Cambridge, and the only such house in Cambridge with a fan light over the entrance. The house was built on its present lot in 1824, and moved about 1910 when Bridge Street was widened.
It is one of six brick houses remaining in East Cambridge built in the Federal style associated with the early develop- ment of the area. NOV 1 4 1980 10.
