Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) NOV Dodge House is an outstanding example of the domestic Queen Anne style, romantically nestled in a hollow.
The house is set back about 150 feet from Sparks Street inaa small depression and is surrounded by large trees. The property is appnoximately two acres. The two-and-a-half story structure is characterized by asymmetrical massing and half-timbered gables. The half- timbering derives from the work of Norman Shaw and others in England during the 1860s. Various kinds of finely crafted surface decoration and surface materials are used to enliven the design, including vertical boarding, molded brick consoles and diaper work. 70 Sparks Street was built for a son of the family that lived next door at 72 Sparks Street. Number 72 was moved forward on its lot so that each house could overlook an ample side yard, rather than a closely adjoining building. 10.
