Howell's wife designed the house and supervised its construction in 1872-73.
A two-story Mansard, the house was altered in 1914.with the addition of a three-story section to the rear for apartments. The windows in the mansard were also enlarged in the front of the house to a double dormer. All alterations were done with great care to repeat the detailing such as the bevilled stick work on the first floor. Architect R.C. Groverstein oversaw the alterations croverate and addition. 10N 086L 10.
