Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) The Josiah Mason house is significant both architecturally and historically. It is important as a rare example of a Federal period side-hall single The brick cornice of the structure is a Federal detail, but the pilaster enframement of the entrance indicates the emergence of the Greek Revival style.
The first inhabitant of the house was Josiah Mason, Jr., a merchant and owner in the hundred share estate. By an act passed in 1805, Mason, along with Royal Makepeace, John Cook, Daniel Mason, and Andrew Bordman, formed the Cambridgeport Meeting- house Corporation. Mason was a Representative in the General Court In 1832 and served as a Selectman from 1828-31. 10.
