Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) These five urban rowhouses coupled with the adjacent brick rowhouses at 30-38 Pearl Street illustrate two contrasting responses made in the 1870's to Cambridge's growing housing needs and the simultaneous increase in land prices. Together they form a solid wall of housing unusual in Cambridge.

These densely packed units feature polygonal bays carried to the roofline which rhythmically advance and recede from the facade. Their wooden surfaces are scored to simulate masonry with paneled trim adorning the bays and raised entrance porches. Deep bracketed cornices visually support the patterned slate mansard roofs which are pierced by consoled dorm ers. The relatively few alterations evident make these houses unusually elegant examples of Cambridge rowhouses.
