ruins X altered moved date X fair Situated in the northwest portion of Wooster's downtown, the Old Wayne County shaped Italianate style building measuring about sixty feet across and thirty feet wide. on the second floor are round arched and have ornate stone hood mouldings. On the west set back from the main facade and featuring a front porch. It is plainly detailed and in the rear. Alterations include removal of some woodwork, extensive damage to the original appearance as a part of the owners redevelopment. by a central hallway and separated from the outside walls by a perimeter walkway. the attic, a massive metal truss system supports the roof. Behind the jail building is a large garage, built of red brick and featuring a bery. To the rear is a parking lot. Condition 7.

about fifty feet by thirty-five feet. The rear section is a turn of the century masonry and metal frame building, designed consists of two main levels with nearly identical plans. (in one paragraph) The Old Wayne County Jail is significant as an impressive example of Italianate Its juxtaposition of the domestically scaled and detailed front portion with the solid, fortress-like rear section visibly reveals the early operation of Ohio county jails as a combination sheriff's residence and cellblock. Compared to other residences in Wooster, single exception, all similar jail buildings in nearby counties have been demolished and replaced with new correctional facilities.
