Mason House was built in 1846-47 and extended in 1867, and has retained its Greek Revival - Italianate transitional features. The present ell was built in 1846-47, and the front part of the house added in 1867. The only recent alterations have been the replacement of the entrance surround with a new stock unit which does not detract from the integrity of the house, and the enclosure of a porch with jalousie windows.

Mason occupied the house from 1851 until his death in 1880; thereafter, it was occupied by his son, Charles A. Mason, who maintained the family survevina business of W. A. Mason & Son. The Mason House meets criterion B for its associations with surveyor W.A. Mason and criterion C as an example of its style and type.
