Description of the property

Of this residential-industrial complex, the owner's home, 4 workmen's ownership, but the Cisler residence remains in the family. Built in 1884-1885 from a design by Adolph Morris, a local architect, this prosperous owner, Thomas Cisler (1869-1950). His home, Cisler Terrace, shared details of elaborate brick corbeling with his brick plant and stacks located and paneled with blind arcades of brick with stone details, the tops heavily join paired 1/1 double-hung sashes, molded zinc hoods with labels combine variously Elaborate, paired, wood corner brackets support gable returns with round-topped The original wood trim on the veranda is intact, its brackets and supports repeating the lines and proportions of the blind arcades and cornice brackets overhead. The gable-entry shed roof and all other roof surfaces are topped with Slate.
On the rear elevation are twin 4-bay porches located at the corners. The modest wood detail on these shed porches remains. pine doors) with matching cherry furniture, custom-made. Petite parlor furnishings have carved details to match several glassed book cases, a modest entry hall, the balusters in stepped squares similar to the exterior wood trim design of the verandas and porches. Dominating a double-parlor is an organ installed in 1916 of the same wood and design treatment as the rest of the interior. The Marietta Bach Society, founded by Mr. Cisler, still gathers here homes. These modest 1½ story homes are of vernacular character, and were rented for a nominal fee of $5 per month. One of the two company stores, a grocery, remains south of the main residence, on the west side of 7th Street at Putnam Street.
Of a commercial design, this building also reflects the modest good craftsmanship of its late owner. The brick plant itself has been razed but was located immediately north of the store on the slope below the Cisler residence. a YMCA; that building and a memorial park are now there. Statement of significance

Cisler Terrace is nominated for the excellence of its Queen Anne architecture and the prominence of its original owner, Thomas H. Cisler (1869-1950).
Cisler Terrace was planned as an urban residential-industrial complex like many that dominated the developing American nation in the late 19th century, much as the residential-agricultural icomplex had dominated the ante-bellum was the founder of Marietta's Bach Society and Astonomical Society and was Thomas Cisler joined his father's brick industry the day that he graduated from brick industry, being the first to successfully eliminate the calcium deposit in Through a process of treatment with barium carbonate, imported from Germany, this shale was first used in making the brick for Mills Hall (formerly Marietta this use of shale, previously an unused and discarded byproduct of brick The brick produced especially for the construction of the Marietta Post Office (1910) was patented by Thomas H.
