The house has a rectangular floor plan set on a foundation of random granite ashlar with some granite facings and en- closed by a gambrel rooi.
It is likely that the original facade is the south elevation which is not visible from the public right of way. The north elev- ation is asymmetrical, having four windows east of and one window west of its entry. Windows contain 12/12 sash set in plain surrounds with projecting caps. Side elevations are asymmetrical. On the opposite(north) side of Highland Stree is a timber-frame barn which appears to pre-date the mid-nineteenth century. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community) Resembling both the Cornet Farnum House (Form #47-93) and the Samuel Taft House (Form #56-53), the E. Albee House may possess historical associations with the Albee Family who were among the seventeenth century settlers of Mendon, although early ownership of the house is unclear.
In 1855, the house was labelled as the property of E. Albee, probably Ellis Albee, a farmer, who in- herited the Albee family homestead in the southeast corner of Uxbridge(Form #31 23). The 1857 Map of Uxbridge contains a heavy printing of water color to mark the nearby town line in this area; this coloring obscures the name of the house's owner, although the name Ellis appears to be indicated. If so, this name could indicate Ellis Albee or an Ellis family whose connection with the Albee's may be indicated by the first name of Ellis. Subsequent owners were C. Daniels (1870) and Charles A. Henry, a farmer, (1898) neither of whom is mentioned in secondary sources. The E.
Albee House possesses integrity of location, design, setting, workmanship and feeling, and is an important local example of a vernacular house type that was built on farmsteads during the initial settlement of Uxbridge in the early and mid-eighteenth century. The Albee House meets criteria A and C of the NRHP.
