The building consists of an earlier Italianate style school house (south) to which a Colonial Revival style front section has been added in 1900 (north).

Both sections are built of wood, 2 stories high on brick foundations. The facade (north) is symmetrical about a center entry set in a pilastered frame with an arched transom. Flanking the entry are two oval lights. The front section is trimmed by a modillioned cornice, above which is a hip roof with pedimented dormers and a ventilator/cupola. The rear portions of the building have corner pilasters, a panelled cornice with dentils and paired brackets, and paired 4/4 sash. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community) The North Uxbridge School was built in two sections.

The earlier of thest two remains at the present building's rear which was either built on its pres- ent site in the 1870's or, perhaps, moved here from the former site of the North Uxbridge School, at #196 East Hartford Avenue. To accomodate the area's choo», i9t growing population, the front section of the building was constructed in 1900 at a cost of $16,000. It is possible that the earlier school house was moved , Ene 1ot at the iine of ehia back on the lot at the time of this addition. At present, the North Uxbridge School house remains as Uxbridge's only example of nineteenth century school house architecture, with the exception of several. one-room(former district), school houses and the Uxbridge Academy Building.

The North Uxbridge School possesses integrity of location, design, setting, materials and workmanship from two periods of development, as well as historical associations as Uxbridge's largest and most well-preserved school building built before 1930. The North Uxbridge School meets criteria A and C of the NRHP.
