The house is of the two-storey, central-chimney type, with a one-storey ell on its east elevation. The facade (south) is symmetrical, havin at its center a panelled door framed by fluted pilasters supporting a heavy, moulded pediment.

Set beneath the pediment is a 5-pane transom. First storey windows are decorated with wooden caps in imitation of splayed lintels. Second storey windows are set into the cornice. SEE CONTINUATION SHEET HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community) In addition to its excellent late Georgian/vernacular design, the Richardson House possesses historical associations with Dexter Richardson, one of the two wealthiest men in Uxbridge during the mid-nineteenth century. As Dexter Richardson is reported to have been the son of Joseph Richardson whose own house was not built until 1819 (Form 21-22), it seems likely that the Dexter Richardson House was built for a previous owner, perhaps a member of the Taft family to whom the Richardsons were related.

Although Dexter Richardson was both a land speculator and farmer, most of his wealth (estimated at $50,000 in 1850) was inherited from his father who had purchased large tract of land in South Uxbridge during the early nineteenth century. By 1870, Dexter Richardson had died and this property had passed to A & B Richardson, who con- tinued to operate a farm here. The property remained in the family at least as late as 1898 when it was owned by A. Richardson's Estate. The Dexter Richardson House possesses integrity of location, design, setting, materials, prominent landholder in Uxbridge during the early nineteenth century. The Richardson po e criterta oe tne t.
