The building consists of a one-storey central section enclosed by a high hip roof and two flanking wings. The whole structure rests on a high basement of rock-faced granite ashlar. Decorative details of the street front (west) include a central dormer with a decorated gable and copper trim. The east elevation, facing the railroad bed, contains a recessed platform supported by posts with braces.

A petition requesting that the Providence & Worcester Railroad provide a suitable passenger depot at Uxbridge was filed by local residents with the Massachusetts General Court in May 1893. Although the bill was approved and the railroad company was required to replace the original passenger and freight depot that had been 1894 and was not completed until 1895 when the new station opened.

After 1895, the building remained in use until the mid-twentieth century when de- clining train travel led to its closing and sale to the present owner. The Uxbridge Passenger Depot possesses integrity of location, design, setting and workmanship, as well as historical associations as one of several major civic improve- ments made during the 1890s, a period during which village improvement became active throughout the region. The Depot meets criteria A and C of the NRHP.
