Description of the property

Statement of significance

(in one paragraph) The Overholt House is the finest example of late nineteenth century Stick Style with authentic historic paint color scheme, the Overholt House is the best preserved features which distinguish it from other buildings of the same period in Wooster. Its building is another distinct element of this building. Finally, the circular stair- of its distinctive architectural style and the presence of these features which can basis of its architecture. This building was constructed in 1882 by Karl D. Overholt, a local businessman. residential area directly north of the College of Wooster. In 1938, the property carefully restored. Playing an important role in the preservation of this historic building was the Save the Overholt Society (SOS), a local group of concerned citizens who organized to Preservation Society and has become active on other preservation issues.
Due in part to publicity over the possible demolition of this building, the city of Wooster was prompted to enact legislation to encourage the preservation of historic landmarks. This building utilized this new ordinance to obtain a special variance to operate a business in an historic building located in a residential neighborhood.
