Historical significance (include explanation of themes checked above) This house is among the most complex examples of the Queen Anne style in the city, exhibiting an asymmetrical plan and variety of architectural details. The incised vase and sunflower motif, found on the second story window jambs of the house, is an element often associated with Queen Anne ornament, but rarely seen in Taunton.
Description: Displaying a highly irregular plan, this house has many projections and ells. Its main block has a steep hip roof, broken by chimneys and many dormers. The facade, partially occupied by a screened entrance porch, features second floor window jambs that are incised with sunflower and vase motifs. The Calvin T. Macomber House possesses integrity of location, design, setting, materials, workmanship and association. It meets criteria C of the National Register of Historic Places as an unusual expression of the Queen Anne style residential architecture in Taunton. Bouindaries conform to current lot lines. 10.
