The gazebo provided a focal point in an outdoor setting, a domestic adornment, and a shady place in which to rest on a hot summer day, at a period when ladies especially did not swim or engage in active physical exercise. The presence of a gazebo indicates that the owners had time for leisure, and that part of this leisure time was spent in a quiet, domestic environment, as well as demonstrating the availability of money necessary to construct an essentially frivolous structure. The house was designed by Horace G. Wadlin. It was owned - by P. L. Bowser, who a partner in the Copeland-Bowser dnygoods store. The property was owned by E. A. Chandler when photographed for the Lemorial Volume. 9. Bibliography and/or references such as local histories, deeds, assessor's records. early maps. etc. -1889 map Mrs. M.
