Foster House is a totally intact'examplé of a side halt Italianate style house and one of three such in Stoneham. Constructed c. 1870, its entry is contained in a two bay gable end which faces west onto Central Street. This end is framed by paneled pilasters which support paired brackets and the gable end return of the cornice.:The house is sheathed in clapboards and rests on a brick foundation.

The entry has a heavy bracketed hood and contains a door with paired arched lights. Windows have bracketed caps and contain 2/2 sash. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community) The Walter K. Foster House possesses integrity of location, design, setting, materials and work- manship and 1s significant as a good local example of the Italianate style associated with a known industrialist. It meets criteria B and C of the National Register of Historic Places. This residence is representative of more fashionable residences built near the town center after the middle of the nineteenth century. Its owner, Walter K. Foster, was the owner of a Pencil Sharpener Factory, and an inventor.
