Setting_Faces east, set back from hission road on hill 19/325580/4710630 (Staple additional sheets here) ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE (describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within community) This is a bungalow with a great deal of style; its tapering porch columns of fieldstone support a gable in whose peak is trellis work. New windows have been placed just below the chimney. This--visible along its whole length -- is also constructed of fieldstone. The roof curves upwards at the overhang, and the pointed eaves extend far beyond the house. The house combines the ideas of hand-crafted natural materials, utility, and cozy shelter, typical of the times.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community) Willow Street long remained undeveloped, possibly because it was low and often wet; in 1889 there was only one house on the road. George Hartwell, who with his wife lived here in 1920, was an engineer.
