An oriel window is centered in the gable field, and an elaborate tripartite window with stained-glass center panel sits within the open porch. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community) Henry H. Howard was living here by 1900.
He was in the real-estate bus- iness in Boston, and had an office in Reading, at the corner of Chute and High Streets. He boarded at l Harnden Street for several years; the business directories have him there in 1892, 1894, and 1898. HOw- ever, town water records indicate that 129 High Street was hooked up to the public water system in September of 1896. Thus, it would appear that someone else built the house and sold it to Howard before 1900. By 1910, Herbert and Eva Brackett lived here. They later moved to Washington Street for a year, before building 276 Summer Avenue (form no. C-238).
