The form was rectangular, five bays long and one (as here) or two bays deep. This house was extended by a leanto to the rear: It has two in- terior chimneys, faces south on granite foundations, and places most of its architectural emphasis on the door surround, which here has a high entablature supported on recessed, paneled pilasters and side- lights. An ell, the subject of a deed in 1849, may have been built at that time.
(ISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Cexplain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community) Daniel Nichols bought land from the Town of Reading 1741-42 and may have built this house shortly thereafter. Probably a farmer he was active in church and town affairs from 1742-1760, tithing man, Board of Selectmen, Surveyor of Highways. His son-in-law, Amos Pearson, who lived here next was also an active community member. The house was divided into a two family dwelling, as was so often the case in the late 18th century, by both Parkers and Pratts. So many of the . Pratt family lived on upper Haverhill Street that it became known locally as "Pratt Row". BIBLIOGRAPHY and/or REFERENCES 1795 map D. Pratt. (Daniel) 1830 map yes 1854 map Samuel Pratt 1875 map A. P.
