Constructed c. 1875, it combines the details of the aforementioned houses with a more complex plan (L-shaped with fully developed rear ell) and a central facade tower containing the entrance. It is a clapboard covered house which rises 2½ stories from a granite toundation to, , a slate clad pitched roof. A three-story entrance tower, which projects from the angle of the ell, is flat roofed and has triple arched windows at the third story.
An open porch extends southward from the tower across the facade. The entry poren oxcenas saotlivarid kron enc is placed on the front of the tower beneath a heavy bracketed hood: Windows have a variety of decorative entrancements but most contain 1/1 sash. Gables generally have round headed windows and decorative matchboarding. The house faces, west on Pine Street, behind its original granite HISTORICAL 50SNIFICANCE (explain the role owners played in 1ocal or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community) The Charles Wood House possesses integrity of location, design, setting, materials and workmanship It is significant as the most elaborately detailed High Victorian Italianate residence in Stoneham thus meeting criterion C of the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of a few remaining fashionable houses in the Chestnut-Maple.
Street area, once a very architecturally conscious area which was developed atter the Civil War. Charles Wood was the owner of this house from the 'eighties to at least 1906 (and possibly before that date) - H1S occupation has not been determined at this time, but his house, land and barn were valued at $9,000 in 1889, at a time when the average working man had holdings of approximately $3,000.
