Built in the Federal style, this center entry two-story house retains the fine gothic lancet tracery adorning its doorway. The rear-wall placement of its two chimneys follows the regional pattern for Federal-period chimneys in Middlesex County: HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the commmity.) This house was at one time part of a large far, that of Kimball Farmer, and remained in his family for three generations. Mr.
Farmer was noted for the violets he grew for his wife in hotbeds behind his property. CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION The Kimball Farmer House retains integrity of location, design, materials, and workmanship. It meets Criterion C of the National Register of Historic Places as a well-preserve example of the Federal style.
