Settingn top of substantial rise in residential neighborhood, garage built into slope Newton Quadrangle UIM Reference: 19/324560/4689800 Map #: 48 (Staple additional sheets here) ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE (Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the conmunity.) 156 Mason Terrace is one of the most fanciful houses on Corey Hill, although it currently is in a state of disrepair. The details of the house are without rival in this area and it is one of the older ones in the neighborhood, once dotted with substantial homes on generous lots of land, almost all of which had a commanding view of Boston. A variety of brackets, both scroll and plain, volutes, balusters, raking cornices, and dentils are just some of the decorative details.

IISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE (Explain the role owners played in local or stat listory and how the bulldung relates to the development of the commmity. The house was built in the late 1880s on land belonging to the Thomas Griggs By 1890, the property belonged to James Dunbar, a judge of the Superior Court of Massachusetts. 156 Mason Terrace meets NR criteria C, being a uniquelexal example of the Queen Anne/ Stick style.
