White 3/86 VATIONAL REGISTER CRITERIA STATEMENT (if applicable) 307 Lexington Street meets Criterion C as an excellent and well-preserved example of the Greek Revival style as it was miniaturized for smaller dwellings. ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community. 307 Lexington St is a lè story Greek Revival cottage based on a sidehall plan with the gable end to the street in an attempt to achieve The gable end forms a deep overhang supported by the columns of the one-story, full-width portico. The pedimented gable roof consists of a classical entablature resting on fluted Doric columns.
An earlier example of this form is 83 High St (1830s) in the Upper Falls Historic District. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community. The first Newton Directory lists James Dolliver as the owner of this house (1868). The houselot on which this house stands originally extended through to Freeman st to the west. The 1874 Atlas shows Dollivers'subdivision of the original lot into smaller parcels which were subsequently built on.
