Date 12/28/79 Rev. by H.White 3/86 NATIONAL REGISTER CRITERIA STATEMENT (if applicable) The house at 31 Woodbine Street is notable as one of the earliest sub- urban residences built in Auburndale after subdivision was initiated in 1847 by the North Auburn Dale Land Company. It is also an excellent and well- Greek Revival design and therefore meets Criteria A and C of the National Register of Historic Places. ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community. This two and one-half story frame dwelling is one of Auburndale's few ,examples of the Greek Revival style, and dates from the village's period of early suburbanization. The house is sited with the roof ridge parallel to the street.
The gable roof is punctuated by a pair of pedimented dormers on the street elevation. A one-story portico encircles the wouth and east elevations. Other features characteristic of the style include the wide entablature and panelled corner pilasters. exterior chimney is located on the south elevation flanked by full-length windows. The entrance consists of double doors set within a full-height polygonal bay. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE Explain the role owners played in local or state history and how the building relates to the development of the community. William H. Blood, a Boston dry goods merchant purchased this house in 1870. son, Charles w. Blood, was the author of a history of Auburndale during the early twentieth century.
