3/86 by H.White NATIONAL REGISTER CRITERIA STATEMENT (if applicable) Edward Parsons house is a rare example in Newton of the Stick Style as it was minlaturized Ior small dwellings and thereiore meets Criterion C of the National Register of Historic Places. ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE Describe important architectural features and evaluate in terms of other buildings within the community. Although Stick Style houses are not found in great number in the vicinity of Newton Centre, the Edward Parsons residence is an unusual and distinctive example. A jerkin head facade gable and patterned stick work and bracing in the gable are characteristic of the style. The cross-gable and facade gable are decorated with elaborate carved bargeboards trimmed with rosettes. Chamfered posts, also decorated with brackets and rosettes, support the porch ro0f.
