Evans was a carpenter by trade and a lifelong resident of Newark. Later, 1n 1860, he was a bridge builder, followedby terms as county treasurer (1862-1866) and state senator (1868-1870). Evans was one of Newark's leading citizens and was responsible for developing a large portion of Mound Street. His obituary claimed progress than he. Evans sold the property to James Birkey on August 20, 1849. Birkey was a Newark ical figure, Isaac C. Ball, owned the house from 1855-1858, at which he held the Henrietta and her husband, David (a saloon keeper) owned the house until 1866.

It seems likely, according to tax duplicates and deed records, that the Holtons made James W. Owens owned the house from 1868 until 1870.
